Glock ported barrel questions

Can a glock have a ported barrel without a compensated slide? What is the point of both of them? I have a chance to pick up a nice looking ported barrel for a G23 that I have and was wondering if it can be used without the compensated slide? I'm very unfamiliar with the two, so any info would be much appreciated, thanks!

NO! A Glock factory COMPENSATED barrel MUST be used with a COMPENSATED slide...that pressure must go somewhere, and without properly aligned vent holes in the slide you risk damaging the pistol AND yourself.

Here is a picture of a COMPENSATED 17C barrel and a COMPENSATED 24C barrel:

If you have a standard Glock and want to COMPENSATE it you must use an aftermarket barrel, such as the one from Lonewolf distributing or the KKM version with a thread-on compensator.

I've got a compensated barrel for my 27, it's a drop in. I can install it in around 30 seconds with no other part changes.

That is what I thought. It is actually that lone wolf one pictured, and I found out it sticks out the front of the slide like pictured.

So what is the benefits/reasons to have this over standard stuff? What are some of the justified reasons(other than less recoil, if any?). Or is it just for the coolness factor?

When firing a handgun, there is a force that kicks the gun up and this makes it difficult to hit the same spot when firing fast. The ports/slots produce a downward force on the gun (by expelling gas up) making it possible to have more accurate follow-up shots.

Thanks, after doing some googling I found a little more on it. It's actually a Storm Lake ported barrel, not the Lone Wolf. They seem to have a good reputation for quality barrels so I am kind of excited. Thanks for all the help!

...except at night, when the upward flash blinds the shooter.
